Mount Vernon Police, Violent Crime Unit Detectives, recovered a total of four illegal firearms during three separate incidents in just over 24 hours. The first incident began on Thursday May 18, 2023, shortly before 1:30 PM, when Detectives from the Violent Crime Unit observed a vehicle wanted for leaving the scene of an accident. When the Detectives attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver, 26-year-old, Demarco Royal-King, fled in the vehicle and crashed into another vehicle a few blocks away. Detectives were able to take Royal-King into custody and recovered a loaded handgun from the vehicle. Royal-King was arraigned in Mount Vernon City Court and is being held at Westchester County Jail on $20,000 cash bail.The second incident, on Friday, May 19, 2023, began just before 2:20 PM. In this incident, Detectives from the Violent Crime Unit observed a vehicle wanted in connection with a past robbery, parked and unoccupied, in thearea of 7 West Broad Street. As Detectives watched the vehicle they observed a party, later identified as 23-yearold Rasheed Murphy of Bronx, NY, enter the vehicles drive side. Detectives approached the vehicle and began investigating the vehicle. It was determined that the vehicle was not properly registered, and Murphy was not properly licensed. During further investigation, Detectives recovered two load handguns within the vehicle. Murphy was charged with two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree; he was arraigned in Mount Vernon City Court and is currently being held at Westchester County Jail on $35,000 cash bail.The final incident was on Friday, May 19, 2023, just before 8:00 PM. Mount Vernon Police received a notification from the Westchester County Police Real Time Crime Center regarding a vehicle that had been involved in a shooting incident in the 47th Precinct, Bronx, NY, entering Mount Vernon. Detectives from the Violent Crime Unit observed the vehicle stopped at the Conoco Gas Station at 2 West Sandford Blvd, with a male party outside of the vehicle pumping gas. As the Detectives approached this male, identified as 20-year-old, Geordan Campbell of New York, NY, attempted to get into the vehicle and flee. Detectives were able to stop Campbell and after a brief struggle were able to detain him. Following the struggle, Detectives observed a handgun inside the vehicle. Campbell was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, Obstruction of Governmental Administration, and Resisting Arrest. Further investigation into Campbell revealed he was wanted out of the City of Mount Vernon for Robbery 1st Degree. Campbell was arraigned in Mount Vernon City Court, where his bail was set at $50,000 cash for the offenses from May 19. An additional $50,000 cash bail was set for the Robbery 1st Degree charge. Campbell is currently being held at Westchester County Jail.
