After a brief chase, a Bronx man was arrested for possessing a loaded gun. Shortly after 1:30 PM on Thursday, May 18, 2023, Mount Vernon Detectives attempted to stop a wanted vehicle in connection with a hit-and-run accident. When the Detectives tried to pull the car over, the driver of the vehicle, identified as Demarco Royal-King, 26 years old, from Bronx, NY, fled. Detectives gave chase, and just a few blocks away, the Royal-King crashed his vehicle into another motorist. Royal-King was then taken into custody by the Detectives, and a loaded handgun was observed inside the vehicle. Royal-King was transported to Mount Vernon City Jail, where he is being held pending his arraignment in Mount Vernon City Court. He is being charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident, and a host of Vehicle and Traffic Law infractions. The vehicle's driver that Royal-King struck was evaluated by emergency medical technicians and refused medical attention.
