A Mount Vernon man was hospitalized after being stabbed late Tuesday morning. At around 11:45 AM, on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, Mount Vernon Police were dispatched to the area of 161 South2nd Avenue on a report of a man stabbed in the chest. Upon arriving at that location officers located 37-year-old Karoy Chandler, suffering from a stab wound to the upper right side of his chest. Chandler was transported to Jacobi Medical Center for treatment of his injuries and is expected to make a full recovery. Detectives determined that the incident occurred in front of 227 South 3rd Avenue and also identified and located the suspect shortly after arriving on the scene. The suspect, identified as Alfred Patton, 59 years old, of Mount Vernon, was arrested just a few blocks from the incident location. Patton was transported to Mount Vernon City Jail where he was charged with Attempted Assault 1st Degree, Assault 2nd Degree, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree. Patton has a long criminal history dating back to the early 1980’s and includes arrests and convictions for Robbery, Burglary, Assault, and Narcotics offenses. Patton is scheduled to be arraigned in Mount Vernon City Court in the afternoon of May 10, 2023.Mount Vernon Police ask that anyone with information regarding this incident contact the MVPD Detective Division at 914-665-2510, all calls will be kept confidential.
