Mount Vernon Police Department Detectives arrested a man with a loaded handgun and a second man was arrested for interfering in the arrest. On Tuesday, April 18, 2023, Mount Vernon Detective were present at the funeral of Tamani Turner attempting to locate a witness to the murder. While observing the procession, following the funeral service, Detectives saw a party that they believed was the witness. This party immediately fled on foot upon seeing the Detectives. After a brief foot chase, the party was apprehended, in the area of Garden Avenue and East 4th Street, and a loaded firearm was recovered. As Detectives were attempting to place the party in handcuffs, another Mount Vernon man jumped on the backs of the Detectives, attempting to prevent them from making the arrest. Both men were arrested and swiftly removed from the area of the funeral procession. They were lodged at the Mount Vernon Police Jail and will be arraigned in Mount Vernon City Court on Wednesday, April 19, 2023.Mount Vernon Police ask that anyone with information regarding this incident, or the murder of Tamani Turner, contact the MVPD Detective Division at 914-665-2510, all calls will be kept confidential.
