Mount Vernon Police Department Swears in New Deputy Commissioner
The Mount Vernon Police Department hosted a swearing-in ceremony for their new Deputy Commissioner David Gibson on Monday, August 8, 2022. Deputy Commissioner Gibson joins the Mount Vernon Police Department after serving 30 years in federal law enforcement.
Prior to joining the Mount Vernon Police Department, Deputy Commissioner Gibson graduated from the University of New Haven with a master’s degree in Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement. He was employed by the U.S. Department of Justice Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) and served as the ATF Supervisor in 2021. Throughout his career with the ATF Deputy Commissioner Gibson held a number of titles over his three-decade career including, ATF Compliance Inspector, Special Agent, Special Agent/Violent Crime Coordinator, Criminal Intelligence Supervisor, and Field Operations Trainer.
Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard stated, “I’m confident in the partnership and execution of his work that will happen and continue to fight crime and work with our officers to sustain a high level of public safety in Mount Vernon.”
Deputy Commissioner Gibson stated “Violent crime is a huge problem throughout the country including Mount Vernon. I have some plans I want to act on in the best interest of this city. We'll work as a team and do our best to accomplish it.”
