Public Works Week
Across the nation, the third week in May is set aside to bring attention to the important contributions of DPW professionals to citizens’ daily lives, including the planning, building, managing and operating the heart of our local communities – its infrastructure. DPW professionals are often unsung heroes of society, and this week honors those who serve the public good everyday with dedication.
The theme of 2021 was "Stronger Together" and it challenges us to think about the role public works plays in creating a great place to live. By working together, the impact citizens and public works professionals can have on their communities is magnified and results in the ability to accomplish goals once thought unattainable.
To celebrate, Mount Vernon Public Works, under the leadership of Commissioner Damani Bush held several events such as an awards ceremony, a public education day, a sewer demonstration, and career day at one of the elementary schools.
